Guemes Island Ferry News

Guemes Island Ferry will be out of service
March 28 to May 22, 2011

SKAGIT COUNTY – The Guemes Island Ferry will be out of service from approximately March 28 to May 22, 2011 during the Ferry Dock Rehabilitation Project construction period.
The ferry docks at both Anacortes and Guemes Island are in need of girder replacement due to significant corrosion, cracking, and spalling from years of salt water exposure. The main construction for the Dock Rehabilitation Project is expected to take 8-10 weeks to complete. Construction crews have already begun work at the Guemes Island terminal driving pile for the temporary shoring, and the temporary floats for pedestrian access; however, ferry ridership will not be affected until March 28, 2011. Tulip Festival

The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival….

…is one of the destination events for the Pacific Northwest, held each year from April 1-30.

Every spring hundreds of thousands of people come to enjoy the celebration of spring as millions of tulips burst into bloom. As with all things governed by Mother Nature, the tulips bloom according to their own schedule sometime during the festival. The tulips allow us to share our corner of the world and help us to showcase Skagit Valley agriculture.

This Isle of Guemes was originially published in 1973. Few copies remain and the binding of existing copies is disintergrating. Appreciating its value to those interested in Guemes Island’s early history, LineTime has re-created the book. A PDF version is available free (below) or print copies can purchased at Anderson’s Store and the Guemes Island Resort on Guemes Island or at Watermark Book Co., The Red Snapper or Pelican Books in Anacortes.
